My task for this assessment was to design a user-friendly monitoring dashboard for mining equipment operators capable of visualizing real-time data and trends for mining operations. I was required to deliver several deliverables, including a journey map, user AND task flows, and an annotated low-fidelity mockup of the dashboard.

The dashboard is intended to monitor large-scale mining operations that utilize many types of heavy equipment such as haul trucks, excavators, dozers, and drills which is done via a control room where operators monitor the performance of equipment in real time.

• Mining Equipment Operators and Supervisors

• Technical staff responsible for maintenance and optimization

• The dashboard must display KPI Data retrieved from the equipment on site.

• Visualize historical data and/or statistics to analyze patterns, trends, comparisons, and potential issues with equipment performance over a period of time.

Based on the brief and the target audience provided by the assessors the creation of I found that creating one journey map would not be able to provide enough oversight. There was and is overlap between those who are using the dashboard on and off-site, however, there are major tasks that deviate and require their own specific functions and solutions which led to the creation of two different user journey maps.

This was a hard section to navigate through. I had to understand that the strength of a dashboard is its ability to use features such as widgets to function and what provides convenience to a user, keeping in mind the brief and the key requirements a general user was constructed and further explored via task flows for more complex tasks.

Given the theoretical nature of the assignment, the design choices and user flows are based on UX design practices and assumptions about user needs and preferences in a mining operations context. The aim is to demonstrate an understanding of user-centered design principles and the ability to create an effective and efficient tool for diverse user roles within the mining industry. It is important to note that for this lo-fi design, I have chosen to design for an on-site supervisor.
